Teen girl dies after getting flung from carnival ride in Texas

A 16-year-old girl died and another teen was injured after the two were launched off a carnival ride called the Sizzler at a Texas fair.

Three teen girls between the ages of 15 and 18 were on the ride at the time of Friday night's fatal carnival accident in El Paso, Tex., according to ABC News.

The girl who died was flung from the ride and collided into a metal barricade — another teen girl was
also thrown off but only had minor injuries.

NewYorkDailyTimes reports that the carnival was hosted by the St. Thomas Aquinas Church in east El Paso and organized in honor of the Mexican holiday Dia de Los Ninos Fiesta.

The deadly Sizzler ride spins people around at a center point while riders’ seats simultaneously rotate.

The aunt of the third teen girl on the ride who walked away unscathed from the accident told NewsChannel9 that the girls complained that the ride's seatbelts wouldn’t buckle before getting on —but the ride operator reassured them that they’d be fine without the safety mechanisms.

The uninjured teen held on for dear life by grasping the unfastened seat belt, according to what the aunt told News Channel 9.

Police are investigating whether Playtime Amusements Inc inspected the ride properly before the fatal incident.
“There’s inspections that are required, whether or not this vendor has been up to par with that hasn’t been determined. That’ll be revealed in the investigation,” El Paso police spokesman Sgt. Enrique Carillo told a local Fox network.
